At AT&T1, we’ve invested nearly $1.5 billion in our Houston wireless and wired networks during 2015-2017. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and businesses. They also improve critical services that support public safety and first responders.
In 2017, AT&T made 446 wireless network upgrades in the Houston area that included boosting network capacity.
“Houston leadership clearly welcomes investment in the city’s wireless communications infrastructure,” said Stacy Canady, AT&T Regional Vice President, External and Legislative Affairs. “We are pleased to continue to work with Houston leaders to help ensure businesses and residents here have strong, secure connections and stand ready to harness the promise and power of the coming evolution in wireless communications.”
These investments also support expanding 5G Evolution and LTE-LAA technologies in Houston, which we launched in July. These technologies serve as the runway to 5G by boosting the existing LTE network and priming it for the future of connectivity.
“Houston’s strength rests in its people and in the employers, who live here, give here and invest here,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner, City of Houston. “As the area continues to recover from Hurricane Harvey and looks to further strengthen our economy, it’s critically important that we have state-of-the-art infrastructure to allow us to communicate, connect and compete. AT&T not only understands that critical need for our community, but it consistently steps up to ensure that the City of Houston has access to new technologies and high-speed connectivity that’s key to our future growth.”
